Original Press Release:

New FieldBlock Enclosure is Rugged, Corrosion-Proof and has Multiple Connector Options

FERGUS FALLS, MN (August 15, 2003) - The new FieldBlock bus network drop connection and I/O enclosure from StoneL incorporates a rugged, corrosion-proof design suitable for general purpose and nonincendive (Class I, Division 2) process networking applications with flexible wiring systems. The FieldBlock is designed to incorporate bus I/O modules or drop connectors using quick connectors, cable tray wiring or hard conduit.

Made of Lexan Polycarbonate, the FieldBlock enclosure will withstand contact with acids, basic solutions and salts. In addition, a special coating is available for aggressive organic solvents. The enclosure is fully sealed and may be used in heavy wash-down environments.

Users may select from multi-drop connectors, switched drop connectors, I/O modules, relay modules and special module configurations. Wiring is quick and secure with clearly labeled terminal strips or quick connector pin configurations.

General-purpose cable or Cable Tray wiring (ITC or PLTC) for Class I & II Division 2 areas may be connected into the FieldBlock via compression sealed cable glands. Glands with rubber grommets compress wires tightly, providing excellent mechanical strength and a waterproof seal. Mini-connectors designed for four-wire bus networks and micro-connectors for two wire buses are standard options. Mini- and micro-connectors provide a convenient, secure method for disconnecting spurs from the bus trunk. (With the switched drop connector, field devices may be conveniently removed without dropping power to the network.) Special combinations of compression fittings, mini- and micro-connectors and ½" NPT connections also may be configured.
