Hydraulic Vise clamps workpiece for machining center.

Press Release Summary:

Arnold-Mat uses screw mechanism with integral self-contained hydraulic power booster to create up to 11,000 lb clamping pressure with little operator effort. Positive stop ensures that pressure is always the same, regardless of operator. Vises are available with optional power preset, or with hydro-pneumatic clamping mechanism that produces clamping pressure with shop air. Jaw widths of 3.54, 4.92, and 7.87 in. are available. All critical surfaces are precision ground.

Elseworks, Inc. Introduces Arnold-Mat High Pressure / High Precision Vises for Machining Centers

Elseworks, Inc., of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, announces the introduction of Arnold-Mat, a complete line of high-pressure / high precision vises for machining centers. The vises will be shown at IMTS 2002 at Elseworks' booth No. E-2589.

Arnold-Mat vises use a screw mechanism with integral self-contained hydraulic power booster to create very high clamping pressure with little operator effort. The pressure generated is not only much higher than that of conventional vises with screw-type clamping mechanisms, but also absolutely repeatable: At the end of the clamping there is a positive stop which will ensure that the pressure is always the same, regardless of operator.

The vises are available with optional power preset, which allows even more control over clamping pressure, or with hydro-pneumatic clamping mechanism which will produce up to 11,000 lbs clamping pressure with normal 90 PSI shop air.

Jaw widths of 3.54" (90mm), 4.92" (125mm), 6.30" (160mm) and 7.87" (200mm) are available. All critical surfaces are precision ground to .0004" (0.01 mm), and the vise bed, all guides and jaws are hardened to 60 RC. Arnold-Mat vises can be mounted on four sides (base, end, left or right side) as well as in numerous "tower" configurations for use on horizontal machining centers. Robust one-piece perlitic cast iron body and fixed jaw design virtually eliminates jaw deflection.

Clamping is a two-step process on all Arnold high pressure vises. After the workpiece is placed and located in the vise, the handle is turned to close the movable jaw. As soon as the movable jaw makes contact with the part, a clutch disengages the direct screwing action and the vise switches to power-boosting mode. The handle continues to turn and, with very little effort, will increase pressure approximately 1 metric ton (2,000 lbs) per 360° turn. Once the dialed-in (or the maximum) pressure is reached, the handle will simply stop turning -- this will guarantee the same exact pressure on every part, regardless of the operator. The use of hammers or handle extensions, all methods commonly used with normal vises to obtain higher clamping pressures, are unnecessary. Unlike torque wrenches the Arnold clamping stop cannot be overridden.

All Arnold Vises come with a life time warranty against manufacturing defects and are manufactured by Fresmak S.A. in Spain (ISO 9001 certified). Fresmak, S.A. is represented in the USA by Elseworks, Inc., which maintains an extensive inventory of Arnold vises and accessories in its Pittsburgh warehouse. Arnold vises are sold through a network of manufacturer's representatives and distributors. The company also accepts orders directly on-line at www.elseworks.com, via phone or via fax.
