George Fischer Obtains NSF 14 and NSF 61 Approvals for Popular PVC True Union Type 546 Ball Valve

TUSTIN,Calif. - Jan. 13, 2006 - George Fischer, Inc., announced today the successful achievement of NSF 14 and NSF 61 Approvals for its PVC manual Type 546 Ball Valve with EPDM seals and associated actuated valve versions. NSF International, The Public Health and Safety Company(TM), a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, is the world leader in standards development, product certification, education and risk-management for public health and safety.

"With the receipt of NSF 14 Approval under NSF/ANSI Standard 14 for Plastics Piping System Components and Related Materials, our customers have the added assurance that we are providing a product that meets the stringent requirements of international standards in terms of both health and product performance," explained Tom Carlson, George Fischer Product Manager. "NSF approval adds value to an already proven ball valve by certifying that our product is suitable for potable water use, applicable ASTM standards and George Fischer's quality control process."

At the same time of the NSF 14 Approval, the Type 546 Ball Valve also achieved NSF 61 approval, a requirement of NSF 14 approval, which establishes a minimum requirement for the control of potential adverse health effects from product in contact with potable water.

The Type 546 Ball Valve features a short overall length, buttress thread design and universal multi-function module. These features combine to provide the true union ball valve with comprehensive safety and functionality for a diverse range of applications and chemical requirements. The Type 546 Ball Valve family is NSF approved in PVC and also available in CPVC, Ÿeta-PP (polypropylene), and PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) in sizes 3/8" - 2" (16mm - 63mm). With the wide range of materials available, users can select the most suitable product to meet virtually any application requirement, including water and wastewater treatment, chemical processing, semiconductor, food and beverage, electroplating and metal.

The valve's buttress thread design offers robust construction and provides an exceptionally strong connection for maximum safety. Other important safety features include a ratchet styled lockable handle that prevents accidental movement and a blow-out proof stem with an intended break point. Short overall length allows for design of compact systems for space-saving economies.
