Fujitsu Advances Industry Leading 10Gb Ethernet Switches with Link Aggregation, IGMP Snooping & Port Security

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 14 -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today announced the XG1200 and the XG700 switches, the next generation of its Layer 2, non-blocking, 10Gb family of Ethernet switches. Powered by the Fujitsu revolutionary 12-port 10Gb Ethernet switch chip, they have the lowest latency, highest performance, and are the most cost effective switches on the market today. The Fujitsu Ethernet switch chip is a highly integrated VLSI device that significantly lowers the power and space requirements for high-port density 10Gb Ethernet switch implementations.

The Fujitsu XG series' ultralow latency switching allows IT professionals to build powerful and efficient systems with a compact form factor and a flexible network interface. The new products succeed the popular Fujitsu XG800 and XG600 switches which were originally released to North America in November 2004. The new versions offer a bevy of improvements including link aggregation, IGMP snooping, port security and ingress rate control. These enhancements, coupled with their low latency architecture, make the XG1200 and XG700 switches ideal choices for high performance, high bandwidth applications.

"Today, a growing number of IT professionals are looking to 10Gb Ethernet as a high performance yet economical technology to interconnect servers," said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "With the surge in the marketplace for IP-based storage networks, the Fujitsu XG switches are the ideal products to address the demands to build high performance and efficient networks for servers and storage systems."

The XG1200 and XG700 switches can support an unmatched 240Gbps throughput in a 12-port configuration, with a port-to-port latency of only 450ns, the lowest latency of any switch on the market. The XG1200 switch can be configured with a variety of optical modules, such as SR, LR, ER and LW XENPAK modules. The XG700 switch has electrical 10GBASE-CX4 interfaces that can transfer signals over copper cables.

The series also provides cost effective high-speed integration and conversion of Ethernet signals for Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) and other protocols. Interface flexibility and switching function offers a cost- effective means of running jitter-free SONET services over long fiber optic links. These features make the XG1200 and XG700 switches suitable for a wide range of applications, such as high-performance computing, server clustering, IP-based storage networks, data centers, campus backbones, and telecom media converters.

Other key features include:

o 12-port 10Gbps L2 Ethernet switch models
o 10GBASE-SR, LR, ER, LW and CX4 XENPAK interfaces (XG1200)
o 10GBASE-CX4 interfaces (XG700)
o 10Gbps wire speed switching operation
o 240Gbps non-blocking switching
o Cut-through and store-and-forward switching
o 450ns fall-through latency (under unloaded conditions, excluding optical
modules)
o Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol
o QoS based on DiffServ and VLAN priority
o Jumbo frame support up to 15KB
o Management via Telnet / serial
o RMON, SMON and SNMP
o Link pass-through
o Hot plug redundant power supplies and cooling fans

Development of the Fujitsu 10Gb Ethernet switches was partially funded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), which is an agency of the Japanese government.
