New FieldPoint Modules Deliver More Analog I/O for Industrial Applications

NEWS RELEASE - Aug. 10, 2004 - National Instruments today announced four new Compact FieldPoint and FieldPoint analog modules that deliver high-channel-count analog inputs with 16-bit resolution and combination analog input and output. These new modules - cFP-AIO-610, FP-AIO-610, cFP-AI-112 and FP-AI-112 - are ideal for systems that require accurate manipulation of analog measurements.

Industry analysts categorize Compact FieldPoint as part of a new line of products called programmable automation controllers (PACs) that combine the reliability and ruggedness of the PLC with the software functionality and flexibility of an industrial PC. Using PACs, industrial, control and design engineers can create analog and discrete control, user-defined data logging, Web-enabled applications and advanced control algorithms.

The cFP-AI-112 and the FP-AI-112 are 16-bit, 16-channel analog input modules designed for high-channel-count voltage input systems. These modules reduce the price per channel for analog inputs and deliver PAC capabilities for industrial applications that require numerous analog inputs such as process and continuous flow manufacturing. The cFP-AIO-610 and FP-AIO-610 are 12-bit, four input/four output analog I/O modules. With a balanced input and output channel count and a 1.4 kHz update rate, these modules are ideal for engineers who design closed-loop control and systems that require fast analog I/O.

Engineers can use the NI Compact FieldPoint platform with NI LabVIEW 7.1 software to take advantage of the real-time features such as embedded performance, increased reliability and stand-alone operation. The platform also works with National Instruments VI Logger to deliver simple, nonprogrammatic solutions for low-cost data logging.

About Compact FieldPoint

The Compact FieldPoint platform is ideal for high-vibration applications, withstanding 50 g of shock and 5 g of RMS vibration, even when mounted on heavy machinery or in vehicles. Compact FieldPoint operates in temperatures ranging from -25 C to 60 C, so users can run embedded LabVIEW applications in extreme environments where many industrial PCs fail. Compact FieldPoint and FieldPoint modules are categorized in a new programmable controller option called PAC, an embedded industrial platform that combines the best features of the PC, such as the processor, RAM and powerful software, with the reliability, ruggedness and distributed nature of the PLC.
