Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), Cranston, RI, has just announced its new QuickSwitch Model 6284. This switch enables access of two ESCON Fiber Optic networks from one computer connected to an ESCON COMMON port. Model 6284 features MEMS-based (Micro Electro Mechanical System) multimode mirror switch technology. Control the switch manually via front panel pushbutton or remotely via RS-232 (DB9) serial port.
The switch position is displayed on the front panel LED or on your computer terminal via remote port. Insertion losses are less than 1.0 dB. The switched Fiber Optic ESCON ports are transparent to all data. Model 6284 retains its current position in the event of a power failure
