FCI Expands AirMax VS® System with Co-Planar Power Receptacle

ETTERS, PA (November 8, 2005) -FCI further increases the design flexibility of its AirMax VS® system with the introduction of a new right-angle power receptacle. Designed to mate with existing right-angle header power connectors, the power receptacle enables power connections between co-planar circuit boards and complements the AirMax co-planar product range that already includes signal connectors and guidance modules. Created in response to customer demand, the new power module is ideal for co-planar add-on cards used for system upgrades, memory expansion and test.
"Many customers are taking advantage of the design options offered by the AirMax co-planar signal connectors, so it is a natural evolution that they also want a complementary power solution," said John Burkett, product manager for FCI. "The new right-angle power receptacle brings that capability to customer systems and is the next logical step in expanding the AirMax VS product family portfolio."
The AirMax VS co-planar power receptacle offers the same benefits as the other available AirMax VS power connectors. It is available in a 2x2 configuration and rated to 80 Amps with 150 volt voltage rating. The corresponding power headers are available with either 1x2 or 2x2 contact configurations per 12mm module.
AirMax VS power connectors are designed to maximize the airflow passages in the insulating connector bodies, allowing air to flow through the fully mated connectors and over a large percentage of the contact's surfaces so heat escapes more easily. These design features contribute to the modules' higher current-carrying capacity.
Two available mating lengths for power receptacle contacts provide capability for sequential mating of power and signal contacts. The protected back of the connector meets the UL 60950 compliance for finger probe protection, and the AirMax VS power modules are also RoHS-compliant. The power connectors employ an "eye of the needle" (EON)-compliant tail for press-fit PCB termination.
Volume pricing for the AirMax VS co-planar power receptacle is $2.00 per connector. Samples are available for immediate delivery, with production lead-times from stock to eight weeks. Co-planar guides are also available.
