Original Press Release:

Extended-Travel 50-Taper HMC from Haas Automation

Haas Automation, Inc., has designed a new generation of horizontal machining centers to meet the needs of today's industries, providing high value, reliability and affordability. The Haas EC-1600YZT is a rugged 50-taper machining center with 1626 x 1270 x 1016 mm travels, a 1626 x 914 mm table and a 6000-rpm, geared-head spindle.

The EC-1600YZT features massive cast-iron construction, with extensive internal ribbing to increase rigidity and damp vibrations. The standard T-slot table holds parts weighing up to 4536 kg, and the 50-taper geared-head spindle is powered by a 22.4 kW vector drive system, providing 610 Nm of torque for heavy cutting. The machine comes standard with a 30+1 tool side-mount tool changer, as well as a 15" color LCD monitor, USB port, remote jog handle, 1 MB of program memory and a user-definable second Home button.

In base configuration, the EC-1600YZT comes with a full enclosure, quad chip augers and a coolant system with 360 liter capacity. The enclosure has two wide doors and an open-roof design to allow access to the table via overhead crane.

For machining all four sides of a workpiece in a single setup, an optional 5-degree indexing table is available. The indexer uses a face gear coupler design that provides superior accuracy and extreme rigidity for off-center milling and drilling/tapping operations. With a 762 mm platter diameter and 4536 kg weight capacity, the indexer easily positions very large parts to nearly any angle for machining. A full 4th-axis platter is also available, for high-speed contouring and fully interpolated motion.

For high-speed machining operations, an optional 10,000-rpm 50-taper spindle (22.4 kW geared head) is available for the EC-1600YZT. Other options include high-speed machining control software with full look-ahead, high-pressure through-spindle coolant, a programmable coolant nozzle, linear scales, Intuitive Probing System (tool and work offset), and a hard disk drive with Ethernet interface.

Built in the USA by Haas, the EC-1600YZT is backed by the worldwide network of Haas Factory Outlets - the most extensive system of support and service in the industry. For more information about Haas Automation and Haas products, visit www.HaasCNC.com on the Internet.
