Ethernet Switches offer redundant voltage feed.

Press Release Summary:

Series X-100 and X-200 can set up Industrial Ethernet networks with data rate of 10/100 megabits in line, ring, and star topology. Modular Series X-400 is for setting up electrical and optical Ethernet rings. Optical rings are established via 2 optical ports with data rate of up to 1,000 megabit/s. Signaling contact and LED diagnostics are provided for power, link status, and data traffic. X-200 and X-400 units include remote diagnosis and signaling via network.

Original Press Release:

Fast Switching Technology for Industrial Ethernet

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has developed three new product lines of powerful Ethernet switches. The X-100 and X-200 switches can be used to set up Industrial Ethernet networks with a data rate of 10/100 megabits in line, ring and star topology. The unmanaged X 108 switch features eight twisted-pair interfaces. The managed X-200 switches are available with six, seven and eight interfaces, for the control cabinet as well as for field use in IP65. The X-400 product family is designed for control-level applications, i.e. for high network availability and transmission rate requirements. The devices in IP20 are built into the control cabinet and feature 100- and 1000-megabit/s technology for twisted pairs and fiber optics. Fast optical rings are established via two optical ports with a data rate of up to 1000 megabit/s. In addition, it is possible to connect up to twelve 10/100-megabits stations, and eight more stations via an extender.

The redundant voltage feed, a signaling contact and LED diagnostics for power, link status and data traffic ensure secure operation of the new products. The X-200 and X-400 product lines also feature the built-in functions as remote diagnosis and signaling via the network, for example via web server, SNMP, Profinet and e-mail.

Stations and the Ethernet are connected to the X-200 switches electrically or optically: optically with BFOC plugs, electrically either with Standard-RJ45 connectors or heavy-
duty Profinet-conformant IE FC RJ45 plugs. These are latched onto the housing to relieve the strain on the cable. The new devices in a robust metal housing can be mounted onto a standard mounting rail, S7 mounting channel or directly onto the wall.

The modular X-400 switches were designed for setting up electrical and optical Ethernet rings. In the case of the optical version, the 1000-megabit interface involves an FOC media module with a fiber-optic conductor. The two switches can be up to 750 meters apart for multimode FOC, and up to ten kilometers apart for single-mode FOC. It is possible to plug in up to two more FOC media modules to optically link very remote stations. Based on the standardized redundancy procedure using a rapid (reconfiguration) spanning-tree protocol, the switches can be integrated into higher level enterprise networks which require this protocol.
