SMC's Latest Compact TigerSwitch 10/100 Ethernet Switches

Combine Space-Saving Design with Advanced Features

Both products have eight 10/100 ports in a compact chassis and one adds a Gigabit fiber uplink for distance connections

IRVINE, CA - April 27, 2004 - SMC. Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the enterprise, the SMB and all the way home, today announced two new additions to its TigerSwitch family: the SMC6709GL2 Compact 8-Port 10/100 + one 1000BASE-SX MMF Standalone Managed Switch and the SMC6708L2 8-Port 10/100 Standalone Managed switch. Both switches are available now, at MSRPs of $415.99 and $276.99, respectively.

The compact, intelligent, standalone SMC6709GL2, with eight auto-MDIX 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ports and one 1000BASE-SX port, supports distances of up to 550 meters and has the added advantage of one fixed Gigabit fiber uplink that makes it great for strengthening backbone connection. With an aggregate bandwidth of up to 3.6/1.6Bbps, the new TigerSwitches have a non-blocking switching architecture that makes them perfect for in-demand multimedia applications. The advanced feature sets of the SMC6709GL2 and SMC6708L2 include QoS, IEEE802.1Q VLAN, GVRP and priority queuing to ensure smooth delivery of mission-critical data and security for different multicast groups. Just 1RU high and 10 inches wide, the TigerSwitches are extremely easy to install in wiring closets or in fiber-to-the home applications in new planned communities.

With all of the management features found on 24-port switches but without their cumbersome size or port density, the SMC6709GL2 and SMC6708L2 are well suited to today's diverse applications that move voice, image and data and those with security features that include static address and static VLANs.
