Astro-Med Introduces World's Only Ruggedized Ethernet Switch That Exceeds MIL-STD Requirements for Shock, Vibration and Temperature

Astro-Med, a leading developer of rugged data acquisition recorders and printers, has announced the introduction of an 8-port Ethernet switch that exceeds MIL-STD requirements for shock, vibration and temperature.

The ToughSwitch supports both 10BaseT and 100BaseT Ethernet and is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u fast Ethernet operation. Up to eight network devices can be connected to the ToughSwitch and an additional uplink port is available for network expansion. The plug-and-play and auto-negotiation capabilities allow the switch to auto-detect its link partner with the optimal speed.

The ToughSwitch supports auto-sensing of full or half duplex on each port, providing a performance boost for busy file servers and other high traffic operations. It also supports 802.1p layer 2 prioritization.

Designed to withstand the rigors of commercial/military aviation and the harsh environments of the battlefield, the ToughSwitch is ideally suited for applications where standard or industrial grade hubs will not survive. The rugged packaging and protected circuitry keep it working under the most extreme conditions. Weighing less than 3 pounds and less than 7 inches wide, the ToughSwitch is compact enough to fit in any location. Military, environmentally resistant connectors insure highly reliable Ethernet and power connections.

The ToughSwitch meets MIL-STD-810C environmental requirements for temperature, shock, vibration and altitude. It meets MIL-STD-461 requirements for electromagnetic compatibility. A Mean Time Between Failure of 30,000 hours assures complete reliability under continuous operation.

The ToughSwitch is priced at $3,995 and is available 90 days after receipt of order. More information about the ToughSwitch can be obtained from Astro-Med, Inc., Test and Measurement Product Group, Astro-Med Industrial Park, W. Warwick RI 02893.
