End Mill Cutters are available with four milling grades.

Press Release Summary:

NGE-B indexable insert end mill cutters handle roughing cuts in steel, stainless steels, high temperature alloys, and titanium. HARVI (helical, axial rake, variable, indexable) design enables cutters to achieve metal removal rates of 95 cu in./minute. NGE-A and -B cutters are available as 0 degree lead end mills, and are offered with Weldon and CV50 shanks and optional through-the-tool coolant. Milling grades include KC520M, KC525M, KC725M, and KC925M.

Original Press Release:

New Kennametal Indexable Insert End Mills Offer Highest Possible Metal Removal Rates

(Latrobe, PA) Kennametal has introduced a new line of indexable insert end mills that offer the highest possible metal removal rates in a variety of difficult-to-machine materials. New NGE-B cutters are designed for heavy roughing cuts in steel, stainless steels, high temperature alloys, titanium, and other tough materials. With the patented HARVI (helical, axial rake, variable, indexable) design, the new cutters are capable of machining titanium at metal removal rates of 95 cubic inches per minute, far more than conventional cutters. "You have to see these cutters to believe how fast they can rip through roughing cuts," said Glenn Sheffler, Standard Products Engineer. "It looks like someone is shoveling chips." The new cutters provide an excellent complement to Kennametal's existing NGE-I and NGE-II line. Both lines are offered with a wide range of Kennametal milling inserts that offer best-in-class performance.

"Indexable insert end mills are typically 10 times more productive than high speed end mills," said Sheffler. "Yet they are far more economical than solid carbide cutters in larger sizes because of the cost advantage of their steel bodies compared to solid carbide. These new end mills utilize indexable and replaceable inserts unlike throwaway carbide end mills."

NGE-A and NGE-B cutters are available as 0 degree lead end mills. They are offered with Weldon and CV50 shanks and optional through-the-tool coolant. The 0 degree end mills can be used for cutting long 90-degree shoulders, slab milling, channeling, and contour milling and are capable of ramping. Kennametal also offers NGE-I and NGE-II end mills with patented positive rake geometry. "These cutters deliver lower cutting forces, making them perfect for roughing ferrous and nonferrous materials on smaller, lighter machining centers," Sheffler said. NGE-I and NGE-II cutters are offered as 0 degree lead end mills and 0 degree lead helical end mills with Weldon and CV50 flange shanks. Both Kennametal end milling lines are available in diameters from 0.75" to 6".

NGE-A and NGE-B cutters are offered with four new milling grades. KC520M is a TiAlN monolayer coated grade that provides excellent performance on high tensile strength irons, ductile irons, and nodular irons. KC525M is another TiAlN coated grade that delivers outstanding performance at elevated temperatures, making it ideally suited for higher cutting speeds and cutting which generates a lot of heat at any speed, such as Inconel high temperature alloys. KC725M is a universal coated carbide grade with a physical vapor deposition TiN/TiCN/TiN coating for milling steel, stainless steel, and high tensile strength materials. This material will stand up to the shock of heavier cuts and handle the heat involved in high speed cutting. By providing excellent performance over a wide range of materials and applications, KC725M often makes it possible to reduce inventory and tool setup time. KC925M is a TiCN/Al203 coated grade that handles even higher speeds with slightly lighter cuts and can also be used across a wide range of materials.
