VCI Introduces All New Emergency Relief Vent Series

Ellsworth, Kansas, USA - A new line of manway pressure and pressure/vacuum relief vents from Valve Concepts, Inc. (VCI) provide much more than emergency pressure relief beyond that provided by normal pressure relief systems. The new VCI 8900 Series also provides the versatility that comes with innovative design and modular construction. Available in both top-guided (spring-loaded) and hinged (weight-loaded) configurations, the 8900 Series emergency relief vents feature a standard, one-piece flange base with an integrated bolting pad to accommodate the hinged design. In addition, the modular design allows 8900 Series valves to be converted from a pressure/vacuum vent to a pressure-only vent or vice versa.

"The unique design also permits the pressure pallet assembly to be easily removed for unobstructed access to the tank for cleaning, inspection or repairs," says Aaron Brantley, product engineer for Valve Concepts, Inc. "Plus, the flange base incorporates a set of integrated lifting lugs for easier removal or installation of the entire unit."

Unlike competitive emergency pressure relief vents that use an O-ring for sealing, 8900 Series units utilize a flat diaphragm, which has a thickness based on the vent size and customer-specified set point. As a result, it forms around the seat to provide a tighter seal and improved reliability.

"Once installed, the pressure pallet assembly provides an effective vapor-tight seal when the tank is not under emergency conditions," Brantley continues. "If the tank out-breathing requirements exceed the capability of the normal pressure relief vent, under emergency conditions, the pallet assembly lifts off the seat to relieve excess pressure, preventing damage to the tank. When the excess pressure is relieved, the pallet assembly will reseat to again provide a vapor-tight seal."

Meanwhile, both vent configurations are adjustable for the precise amount of pressure or vacuum relief without disassembly of the vent. Relief pressure on the hinged Model 8930 pressure relief vent and Model 8940 pressure/vacuum relief vent can be adjusted to a pressure range < ½ psig by adding or removing both lid weights and counter-balance weights in any combination. The top guided Model 8910 pressure relief vent and Model 8920 pressure/vacuum relief vents can be adjusted from ½ to 15 psig by simply tightening or releasing spring pressure. All models are available with a 20-inch or 24-inch flanged base to mate with standard 150# ASME and 150# API bolting specifications. Other drilling patterns are available upon special request.
