Embedded Bluetooth Modules provide ultra low power connectivity.

Press Release Summary:

Comprised of single-mode Bluetooth® 4.0 modules, RB1000 series enables ultra low power (ULP) connectivity and data transfer for OEM applications with power and size constraints. Each module integrates profiles, applications, radio, and Bluetooth protocol stacks, eliminating need for external processor. Supporting connection setup and data transfer as low as 10 msec, modules consume less than 600 nA in dormant mode and wake up within few hundred microseconds.

Introducing Bluetooth V4.0, Low Energy (BLE) Modules for OEM's from Radicom Research

The RB1000 Bluetooth Module enables ultra low power connectivity and data transfer for applications limited by the power consumption and size constraints.

San Jose, Ca - Radicom Research, a modem industry leader, announced today the release of the new Embedded Bluetooth Modules for OEM's. The RB1000 family are single-mode Bluetooth® modules designed to meet the emerging Bluetooth 4.0 standards for OEM applications.

These embedded Bluetooth 4.0 modules integrate the entire profiles, applications, radio and Bluetooth protocol stacks, so external processor is not needed. With compliance to Bluetooth low energy standard, the RB1000 family enables the creation of a new market for tiny, cost-effective and power-efficient wireless consumer products such as watches, AMR, medical sensors, mice, TV remote controls and fitness trainers.

The RB1000 family modules can support connection setup and data transfer as low as 10ms, allowing an application to form a connection and then transfer authenticated data in few milliseconds for a short communication burst before quickly tearing down the connection. It takes less time to make a connection than conventional Bluetooth wireless technology and consume approximately only 1/20th of the power of Bluetooth Basic Rate.

"The RB1000 family Bluetooth modules can be powered directly with standard 3V coin cell or pair of AAA batteries. In the lowest mode it consumes only 600nA and will wake up in few hundreds microseconds," says Alex Tsau, VP of Operations at Radicom Research. "This ultra high power-efficient feature makes the RB1000 ideal for applications previously limited by the power consumption and size constraints."

The RB1000 family provides superior performance in the presence of interference from 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless devices and other 2.4GHz radios. The module contains internal EEPROM for loading OEM specific parameters and settings to create custom Bluetooth modules.

There are two platforms available. The RB1000 is a surface mount PCB module with on-board antenna. The RB1000HM is a DIP, through-hole module.
