AVX Heats Up Tantalum Polymer with High Temperature Low-Profile Offering
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 26, 2005) -AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of passive components, has developed a new low-profile tantalum solid electrolytic chip capacitor with a conductive polymer electrode that meets the "lead-free 3 x 260°C reflow" requirements. Designated the T case, TCJ Series, these low profile tantalum capacitors use patented technology to offer lower ESR, safer non-ignition failure mode and better capacitance retention as compared to other polymer devices and conventional MnO2 electrode capacitors, all in a low-profile size (1.2mm height) that makes them ideal for use in portable and handheld devices such as cellular phones, PDAs and digital cameras.
"Existing competitor parts have been unable to reach the industry "lead-free" reflow solder specifications of 3 x 260°C," said Danny Lane, AVX product manager. "Our new TCJ Polymer family leaves them all in the cold by also guaranteeing the ESR specification values after reflow soldering. We're the only chip manufacturer that will do that."
The TCJ Series is suitable for power management systems with operating temperatures up to 125°C. The parts offer a capacitance range of 10mF to 100mF.
Pricing for the TCJ Series starts at $0.45 in quantities of 10,000. Delivery time is stock to 10 weeks.
