Press Release Summary:
Featuring 36 mm dia and stroke lengths of 15, 25, and 50 mm, CAL36 cylinders are designed with round-centered coil and guide. Units can achieve up to 50 G acceleration and offer independent control of position, speed, and force. Soft-Land capability allows actuators to land on parts gently and then apply required forces. Able to work and simultaneously provide feedback, they are offered in encoder resolutions from 5 microns down to 50 nm.

SMAC Inc. Launches the CAL36, the Latest Addition to Its CA Series of Electric Cylinders
Carlsbad, California: SMAC Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the CAL36, the latest addition to its CA series of high performance and cost-effective electric cylinder.
The actuator was initially designed to replace CAMs on a high speed CAM indexer. The CAL36 series has a 36mm diameter, with stroke lengths of 15mm, 25mm and 50mm. The design of a round-centered coil and guide results in no internal moment. Low friction allows the application of very light forces.
Due to the innovative design and construction, the unit can achieve up to 50G acceleration and can offer a long life expectancy due to over-guiding and internal permanent lubrication.
As with all SMAC actuators, the CAL36 series of electric cylinders has independent control of position, speed, and force. Further to this, the SMAC patented Soft-Land capability is incorporated to allow the actuator to land on parts gently and then apply required forces. This is ideal for handling fragile or expensive components and material. The actuator also has the ability to do work and simultaneously provide feedback about the success or failure of the work done.
The CAL36 series of electric cylinders is based on proprietary SMAC moving coil actuator (MCA) technology, which is covered by multiple patent applications. They are offered with a choice of encoder resolutions from 5 micron down to 50 nanometer to satisfy a variety of industrial, scientific, motion control and quality check applications. Vacuum for pick-and-place applications, return springs, and air cylinder type mounting options are available upon request.
