nLight Launches High-Power, Fiber Bundled Array Diode Laser

VANCOUVER, Wash., February 9, 2005 - nLight, a leading manufacturer of high-power diode lasers, has launched a new fiber-bundled array product. Recently unveiled at Photonics West 2005, the Fiber Bundled Array (FBA) (TM) delivers reliable, high-power light via a 1-meter-long, armor-jacketed, 800-micron-diameter fiber bundle. The FBA features high power conversion efficiency and low numerical aperture. This product is ideal as an end pump source for solid-state lasers or as a heat or light source for materials processing and medical applications.

The FBA 800 delivers up to 30 watts via an 800-micron-diameter fiber bundle at wavelengths between 780 nm and 980 nm, and up to 10 watts at wavelengths between 1435 nm and 1570 nm. In addition, nLight can increase the output power of the FBA by ganging several FBA's together into one common SMA-905 connector.

The FBA has a typical numerical aperture specification of 0.12 and spectral width of <3 nm FWHM. Fiber bundles are typically terminated with a standard AR-coated SMA-905 connector, but can be offered with custom terminations to meet specific requirements.

Designed for easy integration, the FBA is equipped with a standard 10,000-ohm at 250C thermistor and is housed in an environmentally sealed, conduction-cooled package. Other options include user-specific bundle lengths and outer jacket materials as well as aiming-beam legs and transport fibers.
