OGP SmartScope Quest 250 Offers High Accuracy Multi -Sensor Measurement in a Benchtop System

Rochester, NY, September, 2004 - SmartScope® Quest(TM) 250 from Optical Gaging Products, Inc. (OGP®) is a fully automatic, benchtop, multi-sensor dimensional measurement system with unique TeleStar® optics for highest measurement accuracy.

SmartScope Quest 250 uses the latest optics, imaging, electronics, and software technologies. Since image quality is crucial for accurate video measurement, Quest's patented TeleStar zoom optics offer superior performance. The fully telecentric lens provides consistent feature sizes anywhere within the field of view at any magnification. According to Tom Groff, OGP Corporate Product Manager, "Our patented TeleStar zoom lens is designed and built specifically for precision video metrology. It is telecentric and provides a phenomenally clear high contrast image with virtually zero distortion." Groff emphasized, "Image quality is further enhanced through collimated profile (episcopic) illumination that matches the aperture of the optics over its entire zoom range. With this dedicated metrology design, SmartScope Quest 250 provides accurate measurements of parts that are troublesome to other optical systems."

The small footprint and large 300x150x200 mm XYZ stage travel allow high accuracy measurements right where they are needed. Designed as a multi-sensor system, SmartScope Quest 250 can use video, touch probe, laser scanner, or micro-probes to completely characterize a part in a single setup. Since touch probes and lasers excel at measuring surfaces and video excels at measuring edges, multi-sensor measurement provides more complete information about complex parts than any single sensor system can. A wide variety of standard probe heads and styli provide access to distinct points on a part. Feather Probe(TM) adds micro-probing capability with milligram-level probing pressure for small features on fragile or sensitive parts. Laser sensors add another non-contact surface measurement capability to SmartScope Quest. "While video and single point touch probe are ideal for dimensional measurements on a macro scale, lasers and micro-probes allow for surface profiling and scanning at a micro level," says Groff. All sensors are calibrated to a common reference frame in MeasureMind® 3D MultiSensor metrology software, and can be used interchangeably within the same measurement program. "SmartScope Quest 250 significantly improves measurement accuracy and productivity." Parts that previously needed to be measured in separate setups on different machines can now be measured completely on SmartScope Quest.

SmartScope Quest's patented optics make it ideal for measuring small parts with critical dimensions including parts of any material, texture, and color.

Software options for SmartScope Quest offering contour analysis and fitting, CAD import, and customized report generation and data export, dovetail smoothly into the company's MeasureMind 3D MultiSensor metrology software.

SmartScope Quest 250 can be seen at OGP booth E2524 at IMTS 2004. To see all of the metrology solutions they offer be sure to visit both OGP booths - D4521 and E2524.
