AZCO Pioneers Use of CI-250 Coupon Inserter to Automate Liner Placement in Meat Trays

Applications: MEAT PACKAGING; and insertion of other flat materials such as coupons, decals, filter media, and holograms into packages for a wide range of INDUSTRIAL AND CONSUMER PRODUCTS.

AZCO's versatile ACU-SERT(TM) Model CI-250 Coupon Inserter does both the insertion of absorbent poly liners into meat trays, and can insert many other flat materials such as coupons, decals, filter media, and holograms into a wide range of industrial and consumer product packages. On display at Pack Expo International Booth S-658 from Nov. 3-7 in Chicago, the ACU-SERT CI-250 as used in the meat packaging industry helps to enhance worker safety and eliminate human error as it speeds processing and lowers costs in this burgeoning sector of the packaged food industry.

Machine placement of meat liners offers several advantages to high-volume producers and processors. Automated handling reduces the opportunity for product contamination and repetitive motion issues while improving reliability through electronic verification of liner placement in each tray. Production rates can skyrocket, from a range of 30 to 60 pieces per minute by hand to 300 per minute with the CI-250 Inserter.

Cost savings result from eliminating the need for pre-cut liners, which are troublesome to inventory and warehouse, especially when ordered in a variety of sizes. Instead, the CI-250 dispenses less-expensive, roll-fed liner material, cutting it to suit the exact length of the individual tray.

AZCO estimates that the lower labor and material costs of the CI-250 produce a savings of $5 per thousand liners. Depending on output, payback can be less than three months in high volume environments.

The CI-250 also feeds flat coupons, labels or leaflets up to 250mm/9 in wide automatically from preprinted rolls of stock. Operation can be continuous or on-demand. The remote control panel (connected by a 6 foot cable) includes an LCD display and membrane keypad for easy setup and operation. The machine's sealed bearings, rotary cutter and permanent magnet unwind make for low maintenance. Computer controls allow easy size adjustment on-site or remotely. The cutting device, a servo-driven rotary knife cartridge, offers extended durability through millions of cuts.
