Endress+Hauser Announces DEF Coriolis Flow Meter

NTEP certified Coriolis meter is for diesel exhaust fluid applications

Endress+Hauser announces the Promass 8FE Coriolis Flow Meter. The National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) certified the 8FE Coriolis meters for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) applications. The 8FE can be used during DEF production, tank storage, dispensing and transportation aboard trucks and tankers.

DEF is a clear, colorless, non-toxic, non-flammable and non-combustible liquid. It's made up of 32.5 percent urea, with the balance distilled or deionized water. Urea and water are completely miscible and do not separate in storage. DEF has a specific gravity of 1.09 at 68°F and weighs approximately 9.08 lbs/gallon.

The precise measurement of DEF liquid volume on trucks or in dispensers is challenging due to changing external temperatures. For example, when DEF freezes at temperatures below 12°F, its volume increases by 7%.

The 8FE measures and compensates for environmental influences directly; that is, without additional measuring equipment. To do this, the 8FE combines integrated temperature measurement with intelligent conversion functions based on the internationally recognized API table, providing direct on-board volume correction.

All materials of construction in the 8FE are compatible with DEF, thus minimizing the chance of corrosion of the flowmeter and contamination of the DEF as specified in ISO 22241-1. Customers can order flanges to EN (DIN), ANSI or JIS. VCO couplings are also available as an option, with BSPP threads standard.

Other features include:
  • Excellent and traceable measuring accuracy, ensured by Endress+Hauser's ISO 17025 third party accredited calibration facilities
  • Cost-effective, space-saving, compact and robust design compared to mechanical fillers
  • High level of resistance to vibration for operation on trucks and long term stability
  • Maintenance-free operation because there are no moving parts or seals
  • Various custody-transfer approvals
  • Worldwide accepted Ex-approvals for hazardous areas
  • Superb production quality for high operational safety
  • Smart electronics for diagnostics and digital interface.

All U.S. states require their weights and measure officials to periodically verify meters for accuracy. The in-house calibration facilities at Endress+Hauser are accredited worldwide in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, and are traceable to national standards such as SAS, PTB, COFRAC, LNE, A2LA and CNAS. This, together with the advanced electronics, guarantees measuring accuracy of 0.3% volume flow and 0.2% mass flow.

For communications, the 8FE provides a pulse output with possible phase offsets of 0°, 90° or 180°, and/or a MODBUS link with a status output. Both outputs have appropriate custody transfer approvals.

    Simple, dependable commissioning
The "FieldCare" configuration and service software from Endress+Hauser is a simple, dependable way to commission flowmeters and to modify device parameters. This services allows the end-user to optimize their overall operation with the benefits of flow diagrams for functional analysis.

The "Fieldview" add-on module allows visualization of measured data, with graphic logging and diagnostic evaluations for pinpoint individual meter analysis. This provides system suppliers and operators insights into the refueling process itself, enabling optimization as needed.

Process parameters and device data can also be printed, archived or emailed with FieldCare, adding essential detail to customer documentation. This ensures data is available when required for servicing or maintenance.
