Original Press Release:

DuPont Imron®: A New Generation Is Borne

(Wilmington, DE) --- DuPont Industrial Coatings introduces a new family of products that provide outstanding performance along with environmental compliance, all in a single-component system.

The new DuPont Imron® Waterborne Polyurethane Copolymer coatings line includes: primers; satin-gloss DTM (direct-to-metal); high-gloss topcoats (including clear); and, a flat clear topcoat. These are available in 12 custom color tints which can be used to mix hundreds of custom colors.

All of the products are free of HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutants) and low in VOC (volatile organic compounds) with less than 1.8 lbs/gal.

The manufacturer claims that, at recommended film builds, the Imron® Waterborne Polyurethane Copolymer products have "performance properties approaching competitive two-component epoxy and polyurethane systems, and offer significantly higher performance than other typical single-component consumer/architectural/industrial type waterborne products." Key performance attributes include: durability; chemical resistance; salt fog resistance; and, long-term gloss and color retention.

Another key feature of the product line is quick dry time. Imron® Copolymers reach hard dry in two hours and can be re-coated in 30 minutes. They may be force-cured in 15 to 20 minutes at 120°F to 160°F. And, unlike other waterborne products, Imron® Copolymers will cure in 90% RH and can be combined with other DuPont Industrial Coatings, such as Corlar® epoxies or Imron® polyurethane enamels to achieve even higher performance.

The products can be applied to steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, concrete, fiberglass, certain plastics and other properly treated substrates.

According to the manufacturer, the Copolymer family will be "perfect for customers who value productivity and ease of use, demand environmental compliance and require a high-performance waterborne paint system." The company points to the following as target markets:

- Ready Mixed Concrete

- Automobile Dealerships

- Amusement Parks

- Gas Stations

- Construction Equipment & Farm Equipment (OEM)
