Connection System withstands severe service conditions.

Press Release Summary:

Consisting of head and power unit in one-piece assembly, BURNDY WEJTAP(TM) uses power-driven, aluminum alloy wedge to lock tap cables into self-adjusting, C-shaped spring body, maintaining consistent pressure throughout life of connection. Wedge's wiping action, in combination with PENATROX(TM) PENA 13 oxide-inhibiting compound, provides contact integrity. Breech-loaded tool incorporates automatic forward-venting gas release directed away from operator.

Original Press Release:

FCI-BURNDY® WEJTAP(TM) Provides Most Reliable Connection Available

Components designed to provide safer and easier installations

FCI-BURNDY® Products, a leading connector manufacturer and provider of OEM solutions to the industrial, energy, and automotive industries, introduces the BURNDY WEJTAP(TM) system, adding a new dimension to the existing group of proven, dependable connection systems. A one-piece assembly that consists of a head and power unit, the WEJTAP provides simple and fast tap removal with minimum conductor damage.

WEJTAP connectors expand and contract for long life. Connectors use a power-driven, aluminum alloy wedge to lock the tap cables into a self-adjusting "C" shaped spring body, maintaining consistent pressure throughout the life of the connection and ensuring reliability during severe electrical and climatic conditions. The wedge's wiping action, in combination with factory installed PENATROX(TM) PENA 13, an oxide-inhibiting compound, provides superior contact integrity.

Designed with the highest safety features available, the tool is breech-loaded and incorporates an automatic forward venting gas release directed away from the operator. Furthermore, there are no loose parts to drop or misplace and a booster ejection system provides additional safety to the operator.

A self-contained, patented device, the WEJTAP power booster provides the force necessary to drive the wedge into contact with the conductors. A power cell in the booster is recessed to guard against premature discharge, and is activated only when properly positioned. For increased safety, the tool/booster system is designed to deactivate the booster automatically if the tool is removed from the connector prior to completing the installation.

Spring bodies are color-coded and the wedges are marked with nominal conductor run and tap ranges; WEJTAP connector packages are labeled with a variety of common conductors with their nominal ranges. In addition, all WEJTAP wedges contain a clearly defined chamfer on the large end of the run conductor groove to identify the "large run" groove, adding to the convenience of visual or hand identification for correct wedge positioning.

WEJTAP connectors have been subjected to extensive tests simulating the most severe service and weather conditions. In addition, the connectors have been exposed to a salt spray test, ensuring high relative resistance during hours of salt spray exposure.
