Confocal System images at broad range of speeds.

Press Release Summary:

Offering imaging speeds from 1.0-16,000 lines/sec and resolutions up to 64 megapixels/image, 2-scanner Model TCS SP5 minimizes damage to living cells since there is no photobleaching. System features AOBS dynamic beam splitter, 5 spectral confocal detection channels, internal spectral calibration, cooled PMTs, and intuitive user interface supported by digital dashboard for tactile control. Optional APD's are suited for extreme low-level fluorescence imaging.

Original Press Release:

Leica Microsystems Introduces Brilliant, High-Resolution, Multi-Color Imaging at all Speeds in One Easy-to-Use Confocal System: The Leica TCS SP5

Bannockburn, Illinois.
Leica Microsystems introduces the only two-scanner confocal system capable of imaging at a broad range of speeds for all imaging needs. The Leica TCS SP5 was developed in close cooperation with scientists from leading institutions. The system unites the two worlds of live cell functional imaging and highest resolution structural imaging in a single, easy-to-use confocal system.

Confocal microscope users benefit from the broadest range of imaging speeds and resolutions ever available in one confocal microscope (from 1.0 to 16,000 lines/second and up to 64 Megapixels per image). As a true single point confocal, the Leica TCS SP5 is the only system to combine fast frame rates, best resolution, and depth imaging with full multi-channel capabilities.

Leica's high-efficiency spectral detection system minimizes damage to living cells. Since there is less photobleaching, there is less cytoxicity, and the extended imaging time is ideal for long-term studies. Also, Leica's AOBS dynamic beam splitter provides 30% higher sensitivity versus conventional dichroic beam splitter systems and offers the flexibility to add additional laser lines. The system features:
o Offers up to five spectral confocal detection channels.
o The only confocal that directly images with spectral detectors.
o Features internal spectral calibration.
o New tandem scanner combines high-resolution and high-speed scanners in one system.
o True confocal point-scanners offer optical sectioning performance unmatched by spinning dism or slit-scanner systems.
o Cooled PMT's provide better signal-to-noise ratio and brighter images.
o Optional APD's are ideal for extreme low-level fluorescence imaging.
o Multi-Photon, FLIM, FCS, UV, 405 - all on one system.

A new intelligent, intuitive user interface, supported by a digital dashboard for tactile control, provides outstanding ease of use across all Leica Microsystems advanced fluorescence systems. A broad range of application wizards, such as FRAP, FRET, FCS, and Motion Analysis, turns the system into the leading research tool for Shared Resource Laboratories.
