New Ethernet Switches Offer Advanced Management in Compact Package

Downers Grove, Illinois (September 16, 2004) - Contemporary Controls has introduced the EICP "M" series of compact switches that offer extensive management features for industrial applications where 0 degrees C to +60 C temperatures are expected. The M series is available in an all twisted-pair 8-port model or a mix of twisted-pair and fiber optic ports using either SC or ST-style connectors. Both multimode (1300 nm) and single-mode (1300 nm) fiber optics are supported.

Equipped with conventional features common in standard Plug and Play switches, the M series expands that functionality by adding important management attributes such as VLAN, trunking, Quality of Service (QoS), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and a programmable fault relay that can be connected to a supervisory system. Individual port parameters and other feature settings are configurable.

The SNMP agent is comprised of a collection of managed objects that can be queried by a SNMP manager to indicate the status of the switch or any SNMP-aware switch connected to the network. When this data is displayed, operators and maintenance personnel, at a central location, can check the entire network by observing selected devices and detect potential problems before they occur.

Configuration is accomplished through a web browser through any
Ethernet port on the network, or terminal mode on the local console port. Port parameters and configuration status can be monitored and modified by these access programs.

For applications requiring redundancy, the EICP M series family of product offers RapidRing(TM). RapidRing allows building a redundant Ethernet network that will self heal in less than 300 ms if any segment of the RapidRing is broken.

The EICP M series is shipped with a DIN-rail clip for installation to a TS-35 DIN-rail. If direct mounting to a sub-panel is needed, an optional panel mounting bracket, shipped with the product, can be installed after removing the DIN-rail clip.
