ClariPhy and Oclaro Drive Development of Coherent Ecosystem with 40 Gbps Coherent Reference Design

Volume Shipments of 40 Gbps Coherent Components Accelerate the Adoption of Coherent Technology in the Core Optical Network

IRVINE, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., -- ClariPhy, a leading developer of ultra-high speed mixed signal, digital signal processing (MXSP) system-on-chips (SoCs) for coherent optical networks, and Oclaro, Inc.( )(NASDAQ: OCLR), a tier-one provider of optical communications and laser solutions, today announced the availability of a 40 Gbps coherent reference design that includes a broad portfolio of commercially available high-volume coherent components. The new reference design, which features the Oclaro narrow linewidth ITLA, 40G coherent receiver and 40G lithium niobate modulator, and the ClariPhy LightSpeed CL 4010 coherent SoC, is an open platform design that has already achieved interoperability with Cortina's Optical Transport Network (OTN) Processor families and can be leveraged by other coherent component companies to address the growing need for coherent-based networks. ClariPhy and Oclaro will be demonstrating the new reference design during this week's ECOC show in ClariPhy's private conference room.

"ClariPhy and Oclaro are leading the development of an entire coherent ecosystem that delivers flexible and agile high bit rate solutions that service providers are demanding," said Reza Norouzian, Vice President of Business Development and Sales at ClariPhy. "With a coherent-based network, service providers can easily and cost-effectively transition from 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps coherent networks while paving the migration to 100 Gbps coherent networks in the future. These advantages are driving the rapid deployment of coherent-based technology as demonstrated by the volume shipments that Oclaro and ClariPhy are making into this space."

"The availability of a coherent reference design is another milestone in driving the successful proliferation of coherent technology into the core optical network," said Yves Le Maitre, Chief Commercial Officer of Oclaro. "Coherent networks have already proven to deliver the flexibility and scalability service providers need to continually deliver higher bandwidth at affordable price points, and this announcement highlights the fast pace at which the industry is moving to this advanced technology."

About the Reference Design

The new reference design features the Oclaro complete set of 40 Gbps coherent optical transmission components, including a narrow linewidth ITLA, 40 Gbps coherent receiver and 40 Gbps lithium niobate modulator. The reference design also includes the ClariPhy LightSpeed CL4010 Coherent SoC, which is the industry's first single chip CMOS coherent SOC manufactured in a standard 40nm CMOS.

The Oclaro/ClariPhy reference design can deliver up to 3000 Km of optical reach performance driven by its leading 55,000 ps/nm chromatic dispersion tolerance. It enables module and line card designers to deliver leading OSNR performance and low power consumption with high chromatic and polarization mode dispersion tolerance.

Availability

The new 40G coherent reference design is available today from both Oclaro and ClariPhy.
