Band Saw Blades handle interrupted cuts in structural steel.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring triple-tempered M-42 cobalt high speed steel teeth, electron-beam welded to fatigue-resistant alloy steel backing strip, Versatix MP Blade design dissipates heat during cutting to minimize tooth breakage and maximize saw blade life. They come in range of sizes and thicknesses from ¾ x .035 to 2 5/8 x .063 in., and in selection of variable, positive-rake pitches from 2-3 to 6-10P. Versatix is also available in coil and welded-to-length configurations.

New VERSATIX(TM) MP Band Saw Blades from Starrett Provide Exceptional Structural Cut Performance.

Proprietary Blade Tooth Design is ideal for Interrupted Cuts and Structural Sawing.

ATHOL, MASSACHUSETTS U.S.A. (June 2, 2009) - The L.S. Starrett Company has introduced a line of multi-purpose band saw blades named Versatix(TM) MP, featuring an exclusive new tooth design that is ideal for interrupted cutting applications in structural steels, tubes and small solids. The new, patent-pending design, developed and tested by Starrett, dissipates heat exceptionally during cutting to substantially minimize tooth breakage and maximize saw blade life.

"The new tooth design features a significant increase in tooth strength and reduction in tooth strippage," said Mr. Greg Cook, Saw Division Director at The L.S. Starrett Company. "Versatix MP Blades feature a robust, positive rake tooth, offering highly efficient interrupted cutting on beams, channels and tubes where shock loading conditions are common."

"Our tests have exceeded our expectations," continued Cook. "In controlled load tests (designed to initiate tooth strippage) sawing steel tubes, Versatix MP outperformed competitive blades by up to 50%. Field tests of interrupted cuts in several applications and materials have resulted in Versatix lasting significantly longer than the blades they replaced," said Cook.

Versatix blades are also well suited for manual "pull down" band saw machines where uncontrolled feed rates can easily overload the teeth with a standard blade.

Starrett Versatix MP Blades feature triple-tempered M-42 cobalt high speed steel teeth, electron-beam welded to a fatigue-resistant alloy steel backing strip. Versatix blades up to 1" utilize patented Starrett bi-metal unique® technology - an exclusive bonding process that provides stronger, longer-lasting and faster cutting blades.

The new line includes a wide range of sizes and thicknesses from ¾" x .035" (19mm x .90mm) to 2 5/8" x .063" (67.5mm x 0.62mm), in a complete selection of variable, positive-rake pitches from 2-3 to 6-10P. Versatix is also available in coil lengths including 150' for 1 ½" & 2" (45m for 41mm & 54.5mm) sizes and 250' for ¾" to 1 ¼" (76m for 19mm to 34mm) sizes, and welded-to-length on 2 5/8" x .063" (67.5mm x 0.62mm) blades.

In addition to being the world's pre-eminent manufacturer of precision measuring tools and equipment, Starrett is also a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of band saw blades, hacksaw blades, hole saws, jig/reciprocating blades and specialty saw products. Blades are manufactured in Mt. Airy, NC, USA; Jedburgh, Scotland; and Itu, Brazil. For more information on Band Saw Blades and Hand / Power Tool Accessories, contact the L.S.
