Ball Valve increases safety in plastic piping systems.
Press Release Summary:
Lateral reducing Series LMBV eliminates vulnerable area between ball valve and tee in piping connections. Adapter connects ball valve directly to piping tee and valve remains fully functional if accidental break occurs in line. Product is available in Geon® PVC, Natural Polypropylene, Corzan® CPVC, and Kynar® PVDF. Lateral tee connections on adapter side range from ¾-3 in. Valve and downstream connections range from ½-2 in.

Lateral Reducing Ball Valve Improves Plastic Piping System Safety
Summary: Plast-O-Matic Valves, Inc. has introduced a patent-pending valve connection for piping tees that is stronger and more compact than traditional piping connections. The valve becomes an integral part of the piping tee, eliminating the vulnerable area between the valve and the tee found in typical piping system connections.
New York, NY - Plast-O-Matic Valves, Inc. has introduced a patent-pending valve connection that eliminates the vulnerable area between ball valve and piping tee typically found in traditional plastic piping connections.
Traditional plastic piping tee connections, commonly called "lateral drops," have relied on a series of reducer fittings and piping segments to connect smaller, localized piping to larger central systems. As a result, lateral drops have an innate weak point between the valve and the tee. When breakage occurs at this weak spot above the valve, there is no way to immediately shut off flow.
The new design uses an adapter to connect a ball valve directly to the piping tee. The valve and adapter, called Series LMBV, becomes an integral part of the piping tee. The design is significantly stronger, and much more compact than traditional connections. More importantly, any piping weakness is now below the valve, and the valve is still fully functional if an accidental break occurs in the line.
Another benefit of the new valve and adapter is that it offers significant savings in natural polypropylene and other high-purity plastic piping. In these type piping systems, costly "zero dead-leg" valves are commonly used for lateral connections. The LMBV is compatible with both socket and butt fusion type fittings for high purity piping.
Series LMBV is available in Geon® PVC, Natural Polypropylene, Corzan® CPVC, and Kynar® PVDF. A variety of connection/reducer combinations are available. Lateral tee connections on the adapter side range from 3/4" to 3"; valve and downstream connections range from 1/2" to 2" and generally are at least one size reduction from the lateral pipe size. Custom size combinations are available.
