Schroff First to Introduce Third Generation 14-Slot ATCA System

Warwick, RI, November 2003 - Schroff®, the global leader in electronic enclosure solutions, now offers its third generation of 14-slot AdvancedTCA(TM) (ATCA) systems, designed to provide the broadest range of configuration options available. The new 14-slot ATCA system, which further expands Schroff's extensive line of ATCA products, is ideal for telecom and networking applications including wireless IP, telephony, and optical switches.

The new 14-slot ATCA system provides the necessary combination of proven performance, design flexibility, and competitive pricing enabling users to select the optimum ATCA system for their specific applications. The system's backplane is available in a variety of topologies including full mesh, dual star and dual dual star. Additionally, the backplanes meet the high-speed requirements of next generation boards, which typically operate at 3.125 GHz and above.

The third generation system, designed to meet all NEBS requirements, addresses thermal management, shelf management, and serviceability issues. With three independent fan trays, each with dual cooling pathways, the new system provides exceptional cooling to the slots, even in the event of a fan failure. Additionally, the fan trays are low cost, field-replaceable units (FRUs), significantly reducing labor and maintenance costs.

The new 14-slot ATCA systems incorporate two Schroff integrated shelf manager/fan controllers, based on Pigeon Point technology, to provide redundancy as well as cost-effective thermal and system management by combining these functions on one board. The programmable approach to fan control allows maximum flexibility in configuring a cooling scheme adaptable to various applications.

Future design enhancements for 2004 include support for alternate shelf management schemes such as onboard shelf management and the new Intel Colorado Springs shelf manager. In addition, a new 16-slot configuration for ETSI applications will be added.

Pricing for the new 14-slot system begins at $4,850. Delivery is 4-8 weeks. For more information, please visit Schroff's ATCA web site at www.a-tca.com.
