Metabo's New 'Stone Master' Angle Grinder with Electronic Speed Stabilization Ideal for Heavy Operating Conditions

WEST CHESTER, Pa. November 2008 - Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, has introduced the new 'Stone Master' WE14-125VS 5" angle grinder built with Metabo's VTC (Vario Tacho Constamatic) electronic speed stabilization, making the grinder ideal for heavy operating conditions such as grinding, cutting and finishing granite, marble or concrete countertops as well as grinding and finishing specialty metals.

Metabo's VTC electronics enhance productivity by constantly monitoring the RPM of the motor, adding voltage as the load increases, enabling the grinder to maintain the same RPM from no load to full rated load. A soft start feature extends longevity of both the motor windings and gears. The WE14-125VS also incorporates Metabo's "CoolFlow" technology with repositioned carbon brushes for unrestricted airflow and a fan that pulls 35% more air through the tool to keep it running cooler during operation. In addition, the grinder features an aluminum die-cast housing to help with heat dissipation and provide increased durability.

The grinder features a robust Metabo "LongLife" motor and offers 12.2 Amps and 1,400 watts of power as well as a variable speed range from 2,800 to 10,500 RPM. The motor and other essential components are protected from harmful dust and debris with double-lipped labyrinth sealed bearings, a unique winding protection grid and epoxy coated field coil windings. This high level of protection extends the motor's life up to five times that of competitive models, especially in the abrasive, dusty environment of stone fabrication facilities.

Weighing only 6.2 pounds, this lightweight grinder features a secure "racket" grip and dual grip zones for comfortable, ergonomic handling. The tool's excellent balance allows the operator to hold the tool longer, resulting in fatigue-free operation.

The tool's safety features include a tool-less guard adjustment, spindle lock and an "S-Automatic" safety slip clutch to protect the operator from kickback by absorbing the torque created if the wheel binds or snags. The power interruption protection feature prevents restart in the event that power is lost to the tool and the switch remains in the on position, protecting the operator from injury and the work surface from damage when power is restored.
