New Distributed I/O for High-Precision Control Processes

KL3356 analog input terminal expands Beckhoff's Bus Terminal I/O system measurement capabilities

MINNEAPOLIS, October 26, 2004 - Beckhoff announces the new KL3356 analog input bus terminal with a measurement accuracy of 0.01%. This bus terminal provides direct connection for resistor bridges, strain gauge sensors and all common analog input signals. This new analog input terminal was specially developed for measurement applications in high-precision control processes.

Low measurement error for critical data acquisition

For applications involving accurate data acquisition of force, pressure or weighing, the KL3356 has a minimum measurement error of ±0.01% of the full scale value.

The KL3356 compliments the other measurement bus terminals from Beckhoff, which process standardized voltage and current signals in the ranges: ±2 V, 0...2 V, ±10 V, 0...10 V and 0...20 mA and 4...20 mA. The signals are digitized with a resolution of 16 bits and a precision of 15 bits. The bus terminals combine two channels in a single housing. The input channels of the bus terminal have differential inputs and possess a common, internal ground potential.

Due to their small measurement error of ±0.05% of the full scale value, these terminals are ideally suited for general purpose monitoring and for controlling important process tasks such as weighing, dosing, quality assurance or general monitoring of limit values.

Self-calibration for increased precision, stability

High precision and long-term stability of the measurement is achieved through self-calibration. The complete circuit calibrates itself at least once every three minutes. This procedure can be synchronized by the controller in order to prevent the calibration from leading to a delay in the production process. Additionally, the accuracy of the measured values is monitored permanently. A warning signal is issued in the event of a violation of the accuracy class, so that "safe" measured data are ensured.
