Delivers the Speed of Light Cure and the Bond Strength of Epoxies on Substrates That Will Not Transmit Light
Rocky Hill, Conn. - September 15, 2005.... A revolutionary new adhesive technology from Henkel Corporation combines all the advantages of epoxy and light cure chemistries, but works on colored and opaque substrates such as metals, plastics, glass and ceramics that cannot transmit light.
The process is simple. Dispense new Loctite Pre-Activated Epoxy adhesive directly onto an opaque part. Expose the part to UV light at 254 to 365 nm for 5 to 60 seconds and assemble the two substrates. The light activates the adhesive, which cures to fixture strength in minutes and reaches full cure in hours at room temperature. No need to rack parts or heat assemblies. And the epoxy adhesive technology provides excellent bond strength, chemical resistance, and high temperature performance.
Single component, medium viscosity Loctite 3355(TM) requires no mixing and shrinks very little (<0.7%) during cure, making it ideal for optical, laser, and other assemblies where alignment of small parts is critical. The acid-free, low outgassing formulation will not corrode or contaminate sensitive components including electronics. Optional heat cure capability speeds full cure to minutes at 60ºC.
Loctite 3355(TM) is excellent for bonding and shallow potting of optical connectors, fibers, lasers, lenses, prisms, and electronics such as computers, laptops, and printers.
