VectorWorks User Michael Gabellini Wins 2006 National Design Award

Columbia, Maryland (October 17, 2006)-Nemetschek North America congratulates VectorWorks user Michael Gabellini of New York City firm Gabellini Sheppard Associates, LLP for winning the 2006 National Design Award for interior design. The Interior Design Competition Award is given to an individual or firm for exceptional and exemplary work in residential, corporate, cultural or interior design.

The National Design Awards Gala will be held October 18, 2006, in the Arthur Ross Terrace and Garden at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. The black-tie gala will feature a dinner and awards ceremony, with an after-party following the event. A reception was held at the White House on July 10, 2006, announcing the winners.

"It was a wonderful honor to receive the National Design Award this year," says Michael Gabellini. "Our reputation as architects and interior designers is based not only on the commissions we have completed, but also on the quality of our visual representation and communication. As a Mac-based studio, we depend on VectorWorks as our primary drafting software. The improved CAD compatibility in recent VectorWorks updates has been crucial to coordinating large projects with other architects and engineers, such as Top of the Rock, Giorgio Armani Center, or Westfield London."

Gabellini Sheppard Associates is a multidisciplinary architecture and interior design firm. Among the firm's projects are high-end fashion boutiques, upscale residential interiors, exhibitions for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the redevelopment of the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Plaza-for which the firm won a 2006 Interior Design Competition Award from the International Interior Design Association.

About the National Design Awards
The National Design Awards were conceived in 1997 by the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum to honor the best in American design. First launched at the White House in 2000 as an official project of the White House Millennium Council, the annual Awards program celebrates design in various disciplines as a vital humanistic tool in shaping the world, and seeks to increase national awareness of design by educating the public and promoting excellence, innovation, and lasting achievement. The Awards are truly national in scope-nominations for the 2005 Awards were solicited from a committee of more than 800 leading designers, educators, journalists, cultural figures, and corporate leaders from every state in the nation. Reflecting the ever-growing scope of design, the Awards program has expanded this year to include three new categories-landscape design, interior design, and design mind-for a total of ten awards.

The National Design Awards is one of the few programs of its kind structured to continue to benefit the nation long after the Awards ceremony and gala. A suite of educational programs is offered every year in conjunction with the Awards by Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum's award-winning Education Department, including a series of public programs, lectures, roundtables, and workshops based on the vision and work of the National Design Award winners.
