ASTM Committee on Corrosion of Metals Honors Dr. David Silverman

ASTM International Committee G01 on Corrosion of Metals has honored David Silverman, Ph.D., of Chesterfield, Missouri, with the Francis LaQue Memorial Award for his outstanding contributions in the application of engineering fundamentals to corrosion issues.

Silverman joined ASTM in 1981 and was an active G01 member up until 2013, when he retired professionally. He worked on several G01 groups and chaired the subcommittees on Nomenclature and Electrochemical Testing for several years. He also served on the joint ASTM/NACE Committee on Corrosion as well as Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials. G01 presented him with an Award of Achievement in 1990.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering, Silverman received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Stanford University. He began his professional career in 1975 at Monsanto Co. in St. Louis, Missouri, where he held various technical positions of increasing responsibility, up to senior fellow. He was then a senior fellow at Solutia Inc., also in St. Louis, until starting his own consulting company, Argentum Solutions, in 2003. Silverman officially retired in 2013.

Outside ASTM, Silverman is a longtime member of the American Chemical Society and NACE International, which has presented him with several awards for his outstanding technical contributions to corrosion engineering and related publications, including the Frank Newman Speller Award and the T.J. Hull Award.
