Honeywell Introduces Version of Shadow Plant Simulator for Control System Checkout

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 23, 2002 - Honeywell [NYSE:HON] Industry Solutions today introduced a Testbed Edition of its Shadow Plants dynamic simulation system that enables virtual testing of new or modernized control system configurations for faster and safer process plant startups and reduced time to profitable operation.

Honeywell's market-leading Shadow Plant dynamic simulation system employs computer models that mirror operations in actual process plants. It lets control engineers see the nature of anticipated future operations to validate system and process designs and procedures, thereby identifying potential problems so they can be avoided. The Shadow Plant Testbed Edition is a version designed specifically for control system checkout during the design phase.

Control engineers can use Shadow Plant Testbed Edition to quickly
validate controller and graphic configurations from familiar PC hardware and in a friendly Windows NT environment. The new product complements Honeywell's TPS Control Builder configuration tool where changes in the Shadow Plant's control model can be back-built and downloaded into the controller following configuration enhancements.

There is no need for additional controller hardware, thus saving costs during implementation and staging. In addition, its easy-to-use features eliminate the need for in-depth simulation engineering experience. As a result, the control system can be readily checked to remove problems early in the design phase, rather than in actual plant startup when they can be expensive, thereby saving startup costs and reducing startup time requirements.

Greg Irving, Vice President of Technology for Honeywell Industrial Solutions, said, "Use of Shadow Plant Testbed Edition allows our engineers to trap up to 75 percent of the software deficiencies in control system configuration prior to the on-site commissioning phase. This capability leads to substantial customer benefits and further enhances Honeywell's position as a global market leader in software for dynamic plant simulation."

The Testbed Edition will simulate control of Honeywell's TPS system's High-performance Process Managers (HPM) or a PlantScape® system's hybrid controller for regulatory control applications and the Fail Safe Controller (FSC®) for logic control.
