Press release date: May 21, 2007

MAYNARD, Mass., May 21 -- Stratus Technologies, Inc. announced today the ftScalable(TM) Storage system, a compact array configurable up to 10.8TB of data storage and delivering advanced capabilities and features to entry-level and mid-range market segments. Consistent with Stratus' dedication to technology for continuous availability, ftScalable storage has end-to-end redundancy including hot-swappable RAID arrays, power supplies and fans, as well as extensive environmental monitoring, rolling firmware upgrades, and online RAID expansion. Hardware RAID levels supported include 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, and 50. The resulting product is a cost-effective, highly available and serviceable storage subsystem that complements a continuously available computing platform.

"ftScalable Storage is an excellent complement to our higher-end storage solutions and provides customers with all the advantages Stratus products are best known for ... reliability, availability, performance and ease of use," said Denny Lane, Stratus director of product marketing and management. "Our customers now have one-stop shopping for a fully integrated storage solution that includes hardware, software, remote support, and professional services. ftScalable Storage is also an important element in the company's strategy to answer customers' demands for complete continuous-availability solutions."

Designed for exceptional space efficiency, the storage subsystem's 2U chassis accepts up to 12 low-profile 3.5-inch SAS drives, and up to three chassis enclosures for as many as 36 drives (300GB 15K rpm drive x 36 = 10.8TB). The system's DupliCache(TM) technology provides up to 50 percent better cache performance over conventional methods, as well as exceptional system efficiency. With DupliCache, write data received from the host to the first RAID controller is instantaneously and simultaneously mirrored to the second controller in an active-active pair with no additional demands placed upon the processor in either controller.

Unlike the environmentally unfriendly battery back-up used in traditional storage systems, the RoHS- and WEEE-compliant ftScalable array uses new EnviroStor(TM) super capacitor technology for 100 percent data protection during power failures. Its long, maintenance-free operational life eliminates the costs and pre-maintenance performance degradation associated with conventional batteries. EnviroStor's ability to quickly charge and restore data results in a near-instantaneous return to full performance on cache reads and writes.

ftScalable Storage is optimized for performance-oriented applications that generate input/output intensive or high-bandwidth data traffic, making this array a key element in disaster recovery, business continuity, or regulatory compliance strategies. Point-in-time snapshot technology eliminates lengthy back up windows and provides instant restore for backup data. Its large capacity and superior availability assure customers in financial services, public safety, manufacturing, healthcare, government and other markets of long-term investment value for their critical application solutions, as well as efficient and effective information lifecycle management.
