October 5, 2007 - Providing 8 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs, and 2 analog inputs, Model ST5-Q is programmed with Q programming environment which delivers register manipulation, conditional processing, math functions, multi-tasking, and HMI compatibility. Self-Test and Auto Setup features measure/configure motor parameters automatically, while anti-resonance technology eliminates midrange instability. Demand Signal Smoothing reduces extraneous system resonances for smooth motor performance.

Applied Motion Products Introduces ST5-Q Stepper Drives


Satisfy high performance needs of OEM market at an attractive price point

WATSONVILLE, CA - Applied Motion Products introduces the ST5-Q Stepper Drive. The ST5-Q provides stand-alone operation and is quickly programmed with the robust Q programming environment, which delivers a number of benefits including register manipulation, conditional processing, math functions, multi-tasking and "generic" HMI compatibility. The ST5-Q delivers up to 5.0 A with 24-48 VDC input, and provides 8 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs and 2 analog inputs.

Advanced stepper drive features allow the ST5-Q to obtain absolute maximum performance benefits from a stepper motor. Self-Test and Auto Setup features measure and configure motor parameters automatically, while anti-resonance technology eliminates midrange instability for higher motor speeds and fuller use of available torque. Demand Signal Smoothing reduces extraneous system resonances for smoother motor performance and reduced wear on mechanical components. Torque Ripple Smoothing adjusts the current waveform to reduce low speed torque ripple for smooth motion at low motor speeds. Additionally, MicroStep Emulation provides smooth motion for systems that require low step resolutions, such as retrofit systems with controller resolution that is fixed at a low value and cannot easily be changed.

Additional benefits of the Q programming environment include the ability to communicate with a host controller via RS232/485 while executing internal programs. Further, option boards for the ST5-Q are available to add encoder feedback and RS485 functionality, and the encoder feedback option board delivers motor stall detection, stall prevention and position maintenance.
