New Modular MACH 4000 Switch from Hirschmann

High performance for the backbone

Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, Neckartenzlingen, has added the MACH 4000 backbone switch to its product range. The modular switch is designed for an operating temperature of 0 to 50° Celsius and supports both Fast and Gigabit Ethernet as well as various routing, redundancy and security mechanisms. This makes the MACH 4000 particularly suitable for use in industrial networks with complex applications such as the combined transmission of video, audio and data information.

The switches have four Gigabit-combo ports (RJ45 / SFP) as well as up to 48 Fast Ethernet ports. Sixteen of these are permanent installations while the remaining 32 are connected via slots for 8-port media modules. These modules support 10/100 BASE-TX or 100 BASE-FX and can be used to combine the devices as best suits the requirements of the various applications. The hot-swap function allows the media modules to be replaced during operation.

Depending on the software version, the MACH 4000 can be used either as a layer-2 switch or a layer-3 switch with static or dynamic routing functions. The devices also support redundancy mechanisms such as the HIPER ring, Rapid Spanning Tree or Dual Homing. The security mechanisms include an access control function in accordance with IEEE 802.1x, IP and MAC port security as well as SNMP v3.

The switches are designed for installation in 19-inch switch cabinets and can be installed quickly and easily following the plug-and-play principle. The power supply can be provided in the form of 110-220 Volt, 24 or 48 Volt. Various interfaces and a wide range of status displays are available for management and diagnostic purposes.
