Modular Manned/Unmanned Teaming Kit enhances aviation control.
August 13, 2012 -
Expanding capabilities of manned aircraft, modular Manned/Unmanned Teaming Kit (MUM-TK) allows aviator STANAG Level 3+ and Level 4 control of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and its payload while simultaneously piloting his/her own aircraft. Solution, STANAG 4586-compliant (v.2a.1) with DoD interoperability profiles, enables aviator to get real-time updates of landing zone before arriving on station or utilize UAS to scan egress path for potential threats.

Kutta Technologies Develops Modular Manned / Unmanned Teaming Kit for Aviation Industry
PHOENIX -- Kutta Technologies, Inc. announced today the formal product launch of their modular Manned / Unmanned Teaming Kit (MUM-TK) for aviators controlling unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
The MUM-TK was developed in partnership with the Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD) of Ft. Eustis, Virginia to expand the capabilities of manned aircraft by teaming them with their unmanned counterparts. The modular MUM-TK is one of the first products of its kind available to help facilitate the teaming of both manned and unmanned assets, and represents a significant step forward in how aviators utilize the ever-growing number of UAS platforms.
The newly-developed product is STANAG 4586 compliant with the latest DoD interoperability profiles and will allow the aviator STANAG Level 3+ and Level 4 control of a UAS and its payload while simultaneously piloting his or her own aircraft. "Now an aviator will be able to get real-time updates of the landing zone before he arrives on station or utilize the UAS to scan his egress path for potential threats. The route nomination feature even allows a pilot to easily scan a road in support of a wheeled-convoy escort mission," said Douglas Limbaugh, Kutta's CEO.
The lightweight kneeboard device is worn by the pilot during flight and is designed to eliminate the repetitive motion strain required to navigate and control a typical UAS by providing an intuitive point-and-click interface through a resistive (supports gloved input) multi-touchpad. The end result is a seamless link between the pilot and unmanned system that can significantly extend mission range, increase standoff distances all while maintaining the safety of the pilot at all times. The MUM-TK is currently STANAG 4586 compliant (v.2a.1) and the final product will be also be compliant with the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE(TM)) standard.
Kutta's MUM-TK will be on display at the upcoming Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 6-9th 2012. Kutta can be reached in booth #3254 during daily exhibit hours.
Kutta Technologies, Inc. is based in Phoenix, AZ and is a leading developer of high reliability mission-critical software and systems for the aerospace industry.
