November 9, 2006 - Measuring 19 x 5.25 x 12 in., Model SU-02-SPC provides single-photon counting in near-infrared spectrum from 0.9-1.6 microns. It incorporates circuits for discrimination of avalanche photodiode output pulses at very low current levels, as well as active quenching circuitry with response time under 10 ns. Users can control gate duration, repetition rate, detection probability, and dead time. Applications include semiconductor failure analysis, Raman spectroscopy, PDT dosimetry, and OTDR.

SUI Introduces Self-Contained, Near-IR Single-Photon Counter

PRINCETON, NJ, November 6, 2006 - SUI (formerly Sensors Unlimited, Inc.) part of Goodrich Corporation oss.goodrich.com/sui, a pioneer of shortwave infrared (SWIR) imaging sensors and near-infrared (NIR) camera systems, introduces the new SU-02-SPC NIR Photon Counter. Easy to operate, the compact (19" x 5.25" x 12") bench instrument is designed for single-photon counting in the near-infrared spectrum from 0.9 to 1.6 microns.

The SU-02-SPC incorporates proprietary circuits for discrimination of avalanche photodiode (APD) output pulses at very low current levels, as well as active quenching circuitry with response time under ten nanoseconds. In combination, these features provide the least time jitter and afterpulsing available in commercial indium gallium arsenide/indium phosphide (InGaAs/InP) photon counting technology.

SUI's new module is based on a family of high-performance InGaAs/InP APDs designed and manufactured in-house. The instrument's mainframe plus detector plug-in architecture makes optimizing or upgrading detectors simple: just unplug one detector and plug in another.

The SU-02-SPC single-photon detection tool offers simple user control over a broad range of parameters such as gate duration, repetition rate, detection probability and dead time. The range of settings is sufficiently broad to accommodate almost any experiment, and suggested setups are included for many common photon-counting applications.

Applications for SUI's NIR Photon Counting Module include semiconductor failure analysis, ultra-sensitive Raman spectroscopy, singlet oxygen detection, photodynamic therapy (PDT) dosimetry, high performance optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) and quantum key distribution and information processing.

SUI, part of Goodrich Corporation, has pioneered the design and production of shortwave infrared components, cameras and systems utilizing advanced indium gallium arsenide imaging technology for industrial, commercial, military, agricultural and biomedical markets.
