May 19, 2009 - Without requiring inert gas, PURBlue(TM) 4 adhesive application systems simplify use of moisture-cure reactive (PUR) hot melt adhesives from 2, 3, or 4 kg foil-encased slugs. Small amount of adhesive is heated, as needed, as to reduce thermal stress and protect bonding characteristics of unused PUR. Pneumatic piston optimizes contact between adhesive and melting grid, while graphical controls facilitate programming and operation.

Purblue(TM) 4 Adhesive Melters from NordsonŽ Deliver Easy, Efficient Processing of Low Volumes of Moisture-Curing Reactive Adhesives

DULUTH, GA - May 4, 2009 - Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq: NDSN) today announced the introduction of PURBlue 4 adhesive melters, the latest generation of its moisture-curing reactive (PUR) adhesive application systems. The PURBlue 4 melter simplifies the use of moisture-cure reactive hot melt adhesives from two-, three- or four-kilogram foil encased slugs, without the need for inert gas. Designed for use in low consumption PUR applications, potential opportunities include clear box packaging, bookbinding, edge banding and product assembly.

PURBlue 4 melters heat only a small amount of adhesive as needed so reduce thermal stress and protect bonding characteristics of unused PUR. The user-friendly, intuitive design offers simple, reliable operation, allowing empty foil bags to be quickly and easily changed while graphical controls simplify programming and operation. In addition, the system allows for easy access and quick disassembly to facilitate cleaning and maintenance.

"Our new PURBlue 4 melter provides an ideal solution for the processing of low volumes of PUR adhesives," said Mark Reifenberger, product line manager, Nordson Corporation. "In addition to simple operation and easy maintenance, PURBlue 4 melters' melt-on-demand process offers quick, easy start-up and shutdown with efficient adhesive use."

PURBlue(TM) 4 adhesive melters feature:

  • A pneumatic piston, providing optimal contact between the adhesive and melting grid to maximize adhesive use from each bag and minimize adhesive residue
  • Graphical indicators and easy-to-use controls, to simplify programming and system monitoring
  • Sensors, indicators and warnings for piston status, slug status and reservoir level
  • A variety of precision, variable-speed gear pump options, with key-to-line availability
  • A choice of manual or automatic pressure controls
  • Single-tool, quick-release access panels and a swiveling tank lid for maintenance and slug changes
