ASTM Standard Test Method will aid stormwater treatment.

Press Release Summary:

ASTM International test method C1814/C1814M-16 will help determine hydraulic capacity of treatment devices that filter stormwater runoff. Primary users will be labs, manufacturers, and engineers. According to ASTM member Dr. Peter Weiss, this standard, by helping ensure treatment devices have capacity needed to treat expected stormwater runoff flow rates, helps ensure design flow rate can be adequately treated and enables accurate comparisons among all units being considered.

Original Press Release:

New ASTM Standard Test Method Will Aid in Stormwater Treatment

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.—A new ASTM International test method will help determine the hydraulic capacity of treatment devices that filter stormwater runoff.

“This standard will help ensure that treatment devices have adequate capacity to treat expected stormwater runoff flow rates,” says ASTM member Dr. Peter Weiss, a professor in the department of civil engineering at Valparaiso University. “This will help ensure that the design flow rate can be adequately treated. It will also enable accurate comparisons among all units being considered because they will have had their hydraulic capacity tested and reported in an identical manner.”

The primary users of the standard (C1814/C1814M-16), developed by Committee C27 on Precast Concrete Products, will be labs, manufacturers, engineers, and potentially watershed districts.

The committee invites anyone to join in developing more standards that provide in-depth understanding on filtration performance and flow rates of stormwater treatment.
