ASTM International Sponsors Seminar to Help Fossil Fuel Laboratories Fully Utilize Standard Reference Materials (SRMs)

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-A seminar on SRM/CRM Blending: Helping Fossil Fuel Laboratories Fully Utilize their Standard Reference Materials (SRMs), will be held May 18 at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand and Suites Hotel in St. Louis, Mo. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D05 on Coal and Coke, the seminar will be held in conjunction with the May 16-19 standards development meetings of the committee.
Key points that will be discussed during the seminar are:
What is (and what is NOT) SRM/CRM blending;
NIST Traceability with SRMs versus SRM blends;
Why SRM/CRM blending is important in calibration and quality control checks of test methods;
Discussion of uncertainty of blends;
Demonstration of how to implement blending coal and coke SRMs - video (will try to have actual equipment set-up);
Minimum sample mass requirements and discussion of pooled replicates;
Interval-repeatability, a new static to check preparation of standards; and
Demonstration of how to use the NIST SRM blending Web site and spreadsheet.
