MALVERN, Pa. - Dec. 21, 2011 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (VSH: NYSE) today announced that the company's WSMS2908 Power Metal Strip® meter shunt resistor has received a 2011 Editor's Choice Award from Electronic Engineering & Product World (EEPW), one of China's key electronics design publications.
Vishay's WSMS2908 was one of only 12 Editor's Choice Awards bestowed by the magazine for 2011, winning in the Best Passive Device category. Winners represent the most outstanding products released in 2011 by the global leaders among electronic component and semiconductor manufacturers as selected by the magazine's readers and a panel of experts. The award ceremony will take place Dec. 22 at Peking University as part of the Embedded Technology Forum event.
The WSMS2908 Power Metal Strip meter shunt resistor is the industry's first such component with sense leads designed to be soldered directly to the PCB, eliminating the need for costly flexible leads. The device features a proprietary processing technique that produces extremely low resistance values that provide for increased accuracy in current meter shunt applications for industrial and consumer single- or multi-phase energy meters. With a tolerance of 5.0 %, the new resistor provides power companies with more accurate data to determine customer usage and to adjust billing terms.
