CHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y. and AMSTERDAM - Teledyne LeCroy, in conjunction with Southern Photonics, is previewing a 45 GHz Optical Modulation Analyzer consisting of a Southern Photonics IQScope-RT coherent optical receiver and Teledyne LeCroy LabMaster 10 Zi oscilloscope. The two companies will preview the Optical Modulation Analyzer at the ECOC Exhibition in Amsterdam RAI, on 17th - 19th September, 2012, and plan a formal launch early in 2013.

By combining technologies from Teledyne LeCroy and Southern Photonics, we can provide the highest system bandwidths for furthering the development of advanced optical transmission technologies," said David Graef, CTO of Teledyne LeCroy.

The Southern Photonics IQScope-RT is a proprietary coherent optical receiver that accepts a single optical input and demodulates a DP-QPSK or 16-QAM signal into two I-Q electrical signal output pairs with bandwidth up to 45 GHz. The Teledyne LeCroy LabMaster 10 Zi oscilloscope, the world's fastest real-time oscilloscope with up to 160 GS/s and a bandwidth of up to 65 GHz, provides real-time analog-to-digital acquisition capabilities for the four electrical signal inputs. Optical Modulation Analysis software is provided for post-processing of the acquired data to perform clock recovery, correct for the effects of chromatic dispersion, apply receiver equalization, and display a variety of eye and constellation diagrams and measurement parameters. This combination of Teledyne LeCroy and Southern Photonics products provides an Optical Modulation Analyzer with the highest real-time system bandwidth (45 GHz) and sample rate (160 GS/s) for the most accurate characterization and analysis of optical signals.

The Southern Photonics IQScope-RT interface to the Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope consists of a USB control cable and four electrical signals. Calibration of the system can be performed on-site, making it possible to separate the oscilloscope from the IQScope-RT coherent optical receiver for other electrical measurements. This allows the oscilloscope to function either as part of an Optical Modulation Analyzer system or as a stand-alone oscilloscope.

List pricing of a complete Optical Modulation Analyzer system, including Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope, Southern Photonics IQScope-RT Optical Modulation Analyzer, and analysis software, is expected to start at $495,000 USD. The IQScope-RT Optical Modulation Analyzer with analysis software will list for approximately $200,000 USD.

The system will be on display at both the Teledyne LeCroy booth (#673) and Southern Photonics booth (#609) at ECOC.
