March 28, 2012 - Papers are invited for 26th Symposium on Effects of Radiation on Nuclear Materials, to be held June 12-13, 2013. Objective is to provide forum for exchange of ideas on research results concerning effect of radiation on materials used in nuclear fission and fusion applications. Special emphasis will be placed on practical aspects of selection of materials for use in nuclear applications and on techniques used to demonstrate continued structural integrity during extended operational lifetimes.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Papers are invited for the 26th Symposium on the Effects of Radiation on Nuclear Materials, to be held June 12-13, 2013, at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, Ind. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee. The objective of the symposium is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on the recent research results concerning the effect of radiation on the materials used in nuclear fission and fusion applications. Special emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of the selection of materials for use in nuclear applications and on techniques used to demonstrate their continued structural integrity during extended operational lifetimes. Papers are invited on the following topics: o Practical aspects of the selection of materials for use in nuclear applications;
o Techniques used to demonstrate their continued structural integrity during extended operational lifetimes;
o Applicability of information collected from accelerated radiation experiments to the prediction of conditions in operating reactors;
o Design of surveillance programs for extended lifetimes and for new reactors;
o Modeling and prediction of pressure vessel embrittlement based on reactor operating conditions and material's chemical composition;
o Transition of practical and research knowledge into ASTM and ASME codes and standards;
o Theory and modeling of radiation effects on materials including experimental validation;
o Study of irradiation effects using charged particles; and
o Advanced techniques for the characterization of irradiated materials. To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit a 250-300 word preliminary abstract by Sept. 30, 2012. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium co-chairmen will notify you by Oct. 31, 2012, of your paper's acceptability for presentation at the symposium. Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Selected Technical Paper (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. After the final selection of abstracts has been approved, the ASTM Editorial Office will send authors' instructions via email.
