Sundyne Achieves OSHA VPP Star Status

ARVADA, Colo., September 28, 2010 - Sundyne Corp., a Hamilton Sundstrand industrial business, today announced that the employees at the Arvada, Colorado USA headquarters manufacturing facility have received national recognition for worker safety as a Star Site through the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Hamilton Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The VPP Star award recognizes employers and workers in private industry who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries. Sundyne employees began the certification process more then a year ago. The vigorous OSHA standards are performance based and were verified by application review and rigorous onsite evaluation by a team of safety and health experts. Sundyne joins 14 other United States sites in Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation who have achieved VPP Star status.

"At Sundyne one of our core values is to provide a 100% safe work environment. It is no coincidence that we began our quest for the VPP Star certification more then a year ago, and our employees just passed one year without a recordable incident," said Jeff Wiemelt, vice president and general manager of Sundyne. "Our safety record is a testament of the Sundyne employee commitment to producing reliable pumps and compressors that keep customers safe in challenging oil, gas and chemical processing industries," also stated Wiemelt.

The qualification process for VPP Star status included a comprehensive audit of the Sundyne facility in safety, health, training and operational programs; in depth employee interviews about their understanding of the safety programs; and detail on how Sundyne conducts business. "Employees who use the manufacturing processes every day identify potential safety improvements and help design solutions. Our legacy was production first. Now, the culture of safety and productivity go hand in hand," stated Scott Allen, director of operations at Sundyne.

The VPP was created in 1982 to encourage industry-related facilities to strive for safety excellence. VPP sites have shown their commitment to employee protection extends beyond the OSHA standards. Companies who achieve the VPP Star Award display injury and illness rates at or below the national average of their competitors.

"Employee involvement with support by the management team achieves success from action in the grassroots of the organization. I am excited to work in a company who values safety so highly that it is recognized as having the highest standards in the country," said Jenelle Morris, environmental health and safety manager at Sundyne.

The Sundyne EH&S program is utilized throughout the world to design, manufacture and distribute a family of products including heavy duty ISO 13709/API 610 integrally geared pumps; direct drive and multi-stage pumps; sealless magnetic drive pumps including API 685 and ANSI and ISO standards; high-speed multi-stage compressors for hydrocarbon and chemical processing, power generation, water management, and general industries. Sundyne also manufactures motors, stators and generators for aerospace, aircraft, refrigeration, hybrid bus and truck industries.
