Soaps/Detergents Committee elects Kathleen Stanton as chairman.

March 8, 2012 - American Cleaning Institute (ACI) technical and regulatory affairs director Kathleen Stanton has been elected chairman of ASTM International Committee D12 on Soaps and Other Detergents. ASTM International member since 2003, Stanton also chairs Subcommittee D12.32 on Nomenclature and Definitions. Additionally, she is member of Committees E47 on Biological Effects and Environmental Fate and E60 on Sustainability. Schools attended include Manhattan College and Frostburg State University.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-Kathleen Stanton, director, technical and regulatory affairs, at the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) in Washington, D.C., has been elected chairman of ASTM International Committee D12 on Soaps and Other Detergents. With a membership of approximately 85 experts, Committee D12 oversees more than 50 standards relating to soaps and other detergents, including materials entering into their manufacture.

A member of ASTM International since 2003, Stanton also chairs Subcommittee D12.32 on Nomenclature and Definitions. In addition to her work with D12, she is a member of Committees E47 on Biological Effects and Environmental Fate and E60 on Sustainability.

In her current role at ACI, Stanton manages global consortia on high-production volume chemicals; works closely with the oleochemical industry to promote innovation in new uses of oleochemicals; and technically reviews government and third-party regulations/criteria on chemicals and green chemistry/cleaning. Prior to joining ACI in 2002, she was a research associate in the Department of Surgery at the U.S. Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

A graduate of Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y., where she earned a bachelor's degree in biology, Stanton also holds a master's degree in applied ecology and conservation biology from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md.
