Edmund Optics announced the election of retired Lt. General Malcolm Ross O'Neill, Ph. D. to its Board of Directors. Dr. O'Neill brings an extensive technical and military background to Edmund's board, as well as a distinguished career leading large technical organizations, executing major R&D efforts and managing multi-billion dollar acquisition programs.
Dr. O'Neill recently retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation, where he served as Vice President and Chief Technical Officer. He was responsible for oversight of research, engineering, program management and technical integration functions throughout Lockheed Martin. During Dr. O'Neill's 33 years in the US Army, he held a number of posts, including Director of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization; Deputy Director of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization; and Commander of the Army Laboratory Command.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. O'Neill received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from De Paul University, and attained his Master of Arts and Doctorate in Physics from Rice University. He is Chairman of the Board on Army Science and Technology for the National Academies and National Research Council.
