W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Presentations are invited for a workshop on Verification and Validation of Solid Mechanic and Life Prediction Software, to be held May 9, 2012, at the Sheraton Phoenix in Phoenix, Ariz. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture and its Subcommittee E08.04 on Structural Applications, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the committee's May standards development meetings. ASTM Subcommittee E08.04 is sponsoring this workshop to bring together life prediction software developers, users, certifying agencies and technical specialists that are familiar with verification and validation (V&V) of software in other fields (e.g., solid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, etc.). This workshop will form the starting point for the subcommittee's effort to develop an ASTM guide for verification and validation of life prediction methods and software. Presentations are invited on any of the following topics: o Currently used V&V practices for life prediction codes from perspectives of code developers, users and technical specialists;
o Experience with application of formalized V&V procedures (ASME V&V Guide 10- 2006, etc.), and "lessons learned" (e.g., what works? what should be changed?);
o Experience with typical V&V techniques - uncertainty quantification, bayesian statistics, etc.;
o User and certifying agency needs and expectations for V&V of life prediction codes; and
o Experience with V&V for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME). Interested presenters/authors must submit a 250-300 word abstract via e-mail to workshop co-chairman Markus Heinimann ( by Jan. 9, 2012. Abstract submitters will be notified of their acceptance for presentation by June 6.
