Hedgecock Award for his outstanding contributions to development of radiation processing standards. Logar is manager of Sterilization, Science and Technology at Ethicon Inc., a Johnson and Johnson company, in Somerville, N.J. Logar's professional work focuses on sterilization of medical devices, which includes radiation processing and dosimetry.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -ASTM International Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications has presented John R. Logar with the Peter D. Hedgecock Award for his outstanding contributions to the development of radiation processing standards. Logar is manager of Sterilization, Science and Technology (research and development) at Ethicon Inc., a Johnson and Johnson company, in Somerville, N.J.
Logar, who is currently second vice chairman of Committee E10, has been a member of ASTM International since 2001. He chairs Subcommittees E10.01 on Radiation Processing: Dosimetry and Applications and E10.96 on Standards Promotion.
A graduate of Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J., where he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics, Logar's professional work focuses on sterilization of medical devices, which includes radiation processing and dosimetry. He began his career as a quality assurance manager at SteriGenics International in Salem, N.J., in 1996. He then spent time as a quality engineer at Weyerhaeuser and as technical manager for the IBA Food Safety Division before returning to SteriGenics as director of radiation dosimetry in 2004. He assumed his role at Ethicon in 2008.
Outside ASTM International, Logar is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, the Panel on Gamma and Electron Irradiation (the Panel), the Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards (CIRMS), and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), where he is convener of TC 85/WG 3 on Radiation Dosimetry.
